Version 23 of E-Z-MRP® Released, An MRP System For Small Manufacturers

Del Mar, California; January 12, 2012 - Beach Access Software announces the release of Version 23 of E-Z-MRP®, an integrated Material Requirements Planning system for small- and medium-sized manufacturers.

“Since its introduction over 20 years ago, the system has evolved to provide nearly every feature and function that a small manufacturer could ask for,” said Rocky Smolin, founder of Beach Access Software. “In keeping with this evolution, Version 23 implements an accumulation of requests and suggestions from the user community.”

Some changes make the system a bit friendlier, Smolin said. “A simple change to the Bill of Material maintenance form reduces the time it takes to maintain your Bill of Material to a fraction of previous versions,” he said. Kit shortage maintenance and tracking underwent a similar re-design.”

Other changes are major. “We have added a Sales Order module so that users can enter, print, and track their customer sales orders,” Smolin said. “We added the ability to copy bills of material from one database to another – making it easy to maintain one database for production and another for product development.

And many reports now export smoothly to Excel – something many customers had asked for.”

E-Z-MRP was originally developed for small businesses whose primary competitive edge over their larger competitors was their agility – the ability to respond to rapidly changing customer demands faster than the competition. This means being able to run their MRP calculations whenever required, sometimes more than once a day.

“E-Z-MRP responds to that need,” Smolin said.

E-Z-MRP History

E-Z-MRP was first released under the DOS operating system in 1985, and achieved great success and widespread use with hundreds of customers world-wide. It has been successfully implemented in a wide variety of small manufacturing companies such as medical instrumentation, appliances, automotive, pharmaceutical, woodworking, furniture construction, spraying systems, orthodontics, and firearms. It has also been used as an instructional aid in universities.

E-Z-MRP works just as well in job shop or build-to-order environments as in build-to-stock or build-to-forecast operations.

In 1995, E-Z-MRP was completely rewritten and re-released using Microsoft’s Access Database Management System – a component of the popular Microsoft Office Suite – making it compatible with a wide variety of third-party products.

E-Z-MRP Product Features and Low-Cost, High-Value Pricing

The E-Z-MRP package includes a full-featured Bill of Materials processor, plus a material planning and tracking module which tracks all sales orders, forecasts, work orders (planned, firm, and released), purchase orders, shortages, raw materials and finished goods inventories. It also records a complete audit trail on all inventory transactions. Also included is a physical inventory function, a purchase order module for entering and printing purchase orders, and a sales order module for entering and printing customer orders.

“Anyone who can read and count to twenty can run E-Z-MRP,” Smolin said. “They don’t have to go somewhere for two weeks for training. They don’t have to double the cost of the system by bringing in an outside consultant to teach them where the right buttons are.”

This is the niche that Smolin said gives E-Z-MRP an edge over almost all other manufacturing systems – that it is affordable and simple enough for small companies, independent divisions or project teams in larger companies, start-ups, or cash-strapped firms watching their bottom line.

Priced at just $1495 for the 500-part version, and only $3495 for the unlimited version, the E-Z-MRP system is a fraction of the cost of systems with similar power and capabilities. It will run on any Windows-based PC or network, and requires only Access 2003 or later. No on-site or remote training is required. A comprehensive user manual with tutorials provides all the required instruction.
